The Parsonage Porch from Elizabeth Gordy
Thank you for your Financial Generosity! I would like to extend a big thank you to all individuals and teams who have stepped out in faith to contribute financial support to our friends in Haiti. We have been able to provide paid schooling for three elementary children and their adult sponsor.
Their Sunday School teacher /sponsor, Nadeline Geoges, recently passed a cooking class with high marks. Additionally, we’ve been able to purchase a laptop for her and provide funds to support her unexpected medical needs.
I have been busy working on crocheting winter headbands and hats as an impromptu fundraiser at Hersey UMC. Financial donations raised will be sent to our Haitian son, Greatest’ friend, Ronaldo Rene, for food and shelter.
I’ve attached information about Ronaldo so that you know a little bit about him.
Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth
Hello, my name is Ronaldo Rene. I am from Haiti, which is located south of Florida, just beyond Cuba. My country is attached to the Dominican Republic. In DR, the language spoken is Spanish, but in Haiti… it’s French or Creole. I have one sibling, a sister. I have no mother or father as both have passed away. I have a small group of friends, but no one like Greatest Similus whom you met in your church this past summer.
When Greatest still lived in Haiti, we were very close, and I looked at him as a brother. Because Ronaldo was left alone at a young age, Greatest spent a lot of time with him playing soccer. Ronaldo would eat at Greatest house every day and would also take part in the food provided through their Michigan Moms (Christina, Faith, and Elizabeth). (Greatest is in the back row, 2nd from left to right, and Ronaldo is on the end)
Ronaldo is a wonderful young man who is very talented but is in need of financial support to move forward. Unfortunately, gangs in Haiti destroyed his home (shelter) in a town named Taberre, then seeking shelter in Mirebalais. The gangs again looted this home, too. He now lives in a town called Beladere, close to Dominican.
Ronaldo shares that he thanks God for the grace he gives me every day and I thank him for the big brother he gave me who is Greatest, Mom Elizabeth, and Pastor Sam. I thank you all for your support, and especially in prayer; I really appreciate it. 100% of the financial donation goes to Ronaldo to help him with food and shelter.
I’ve been linked to Haiti missions since my first mission trip in 2011. It was the beginning of a new awakening through the UMC/ VIM and with other well-traveled persons who formed their own mission trips based on yearlong relationships with children and families in Haiti.
My second trip took place in 2014. This was one of those trips planned and led by those who have in-depth relationships with groups and organizations in Haiti, who were bonded.
It was that summer, I personally met Greatest Simulus and his many close friends, who you see connected to our Facebook Sunday Worship Services.
Amongst his friends was one young lady, Nadeline Georges. This is the key person in my writing today that I would like you to get to know.
Shortly after our move to the Reed City / Hersey Churches, Nadeline reached out to me looking for financial support for three elementary school students. She provided me with their names, school information, and detailed financial information. The weekend, Greatest came to visit Pastor and myself; I heart was led to step out in faith to publicly ask the Reed City Church to consider sponsorship of the children’s financial cost for the 2025-26 school year.
The response was outstanding and quick!! Sponsorship and donations were quickly obtained, and just this week, Nadeline received the money! She quickly distributed the funds to the necessary school for all 3 children (Sarah, Abigaielle, and Samuel). In addition, we had funds available to help Nadeline take a course in Office Computing.
Education and the welfare of the children in her area are very important to Nadeline. A little bit of background on her will help you understand.
Nadeline Georges is a 30-year-old young woman who is not married or has children of her own. Her focus has been on education and ways to better herself in a culture that can stifle one’s dreams and ambitions.
In 2023, she completed a 5-cycle of studies in Accounting Sciences, including 4 years of training for the Bachelor’s degree and one year of special training in Corporate Financial Analysis, equivalent to the Master's 1 from the INUKA University in Port-au-Prince. Unfortunately, she’s unable to work due to the ongoing situation in Haiti. She decided to follow a training course in stock linguistics after she joined a Culinary School. She has used these skills to prepare food as a personal Chef, including Commercial Cooking and Pastries.
On the Spiritual level, Nadeline accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, she was immersed in the water of Baptism, and takes Holy Communion every month at her attending church. She is part of the administration of the church and the undersecretary of the Sunday School. Secretary of the general church and choir. God has entrusted her with these tasks in HIS church. To top off her schedule, she’s the coordinator for more than 50 children, whom she prepares meals for when funding and support are made available. Nadeline handwrote pages of information about herself for me to share; unfortunately, her laptop is no longer usable. She takes pictures and sends them to me via Messenger.
If you or a group feels led to help Nadeline Georges purchase a newer laptop for her continuous education class and other means of professional communication, your support would be greatly appreciated.
